What does 18 free mean?

+

At GLAMRDiP we are all about creating the cleanest formulation possible without compromising on performance. That’s why we formulate to be “18-free” which means we are free of 18 harmful chemicals commonly found in nail polishes including Formaldehyde, Toluene, Formaldehyde resin, Camphor, Xylene, Parabens, phthalates, Rosin,Ethyl Tosylamide, TPHP (Triphenyl Phosphate), Triclosan. Our products are also vegan and cruelty free completing our “18 Free” formula.

Let’s look a little deeper into what 18 free means, and why it is important to us.

Toluene - This chemical is known to be harmful to your nervous system. Inhaling high levels can cause light-headedness and nausea. It is commonly used in nail polish as a thinner and gives application a smooth finish.

Formaldehyde - This is a chemical used to embalm dead animals and humans. It is known to trigger asthma and is a well known carcinogen (causes cancer). It is commonly used in nail polish as a hardener/preservation and prevents the nails from chipping.

Formaldehyde Resin - This is a derivative of formaldehyde, however not quiet as toxic. It is a skin allergen known to cause dermatitis. Commonly used in nail polish top coats as a nail strengthener.

Camphor - This is a poisonous chemical that can cause seizures and disorientation when used in large doses. It acts as a cover on your nails, which deprives them of nutrients and causing yellow staining on your nails.

Xylene- This is a solvent widely used in the cosmetics industry but also in nail polishes. It is harmful by inhalation and skin contact and can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness.

Parabens - Are preservatives used to prevent bacteria growth to enhance and lengthen product shelf life. Studies have linked parabens to breast cancer.

Phthalates- These also act as solvents. They are often used in nail products to prevent cracking nails and to make them less brittle. They are also used to increase flexibility and shine. Phthalates can cause damage to the liver, kidney, lungs and reproductive system.

Rosin- A solid residue obtained after distillation of turpentine from coniferous trees especially pines. You can find it in many cosmetics including nail polish. Rosin is widely criticized for its high allergenic potential.

Ethyl Tosylamide - This is a chemical widely used in nail polish as a plasticizer, reducing brittleness and increasing durability. When drying, it forms a coat to help nail polish color adhere to the nail plate. In Europe, Ethyl Tosylamide is considered to be a sulfonamide, and based on the prohibition of sulfonamides in cosmetics it may not be used in cosmetics and personal care products marketed in Europe.

TPHP (Triphenyl Phosphate)- This is a chemical used in plastics to improve flexibility and as a flame retardant. Studies have suggested that it could be an endocrine disruptor which affects your hormones – in particular, it could potentially affect reproductive health and lipid metabolism.

Triclosan- is an antibacterial ingredient. Research has shown that triclosan can alter hormone regulation, might contribute to the development of

Animal ingredients- We are 100% vegan and do not include animal derivatives.

Cruelty free - we do not animal test. We love our furry friends.

Is dip powder the same as acrylics?

+

Although Dip Perfect powders and acrylics have similar polymers, they are not the same! Acrylic powder requires a monomer to activate, whereas our Dip Perfect is activated with glazes, is odourless and has no need for monomer.

You will also notice that Dip Perfect is more finely milled than acrylic. Although thinner, it has just as much strength as acrylic. Dip Perfect’s thin structure makes it feel like natural nails, but even stronger!

Unlike some traditional acrylics and nail polishes, our Dip Perfect Powder does not contain any of the following harmful chemicals:

MMA (Methyl Methacrylate). A chemical commonly used in acrylics that is banned by the FDA and considered harmful to humans.

TOLUENE: A toxic chemical in some acrylic nail glue and polishes. It has been shown to cause issues with the respiratory system, headaches and dizziness.

Is Base adhesive the same as super glue?

+

No, however this is a common misconception.

Methylcynoacrylate adhesives, such as super glue and lock-tight etc, are industrial adhesives. These adhesives are unrefined, carcinogenic and are not intended for use on either the human body.

Ethyl Cyanoacrylate adhesives are hospital grade/pharmaceutical grade adhesives developed to be used on the human body and porous surfaces. They are highly refined, non-carcinogenic and used by medical professionals, dentists and nail technicians. The United Kingdom's Health and Safety Executive and the United States National Toxicology Program have concluded that the use of ethyl cyanoacrylate is safe and that additional study is unnecessary.

Base Ingredients: Ethyl 2 Cyanoacrylate, Vitamin E, Calcium Pantothenate.

My liquid lid is stuck - what should I do?

+

Do NOT apply force. We recommend soaking the entire bottle including the cap, in hot water for three minutes. After that use a towel to gently twist it open.

To avoid this, please be careful not to get product on the neck and rim of the bottle as this can cause the cap to seal shut. After each use, be sure to clean the neck and rim thoroughly with a lint-free cloth soaked with acetone. Be careful not to get acetone within the bottle itself.

Why are my nails lifting?

+

The main reasons for lifting are improper preparation or not enough #3 Seal liquid. Just like building a house, if the foundation isn't set it won't stand up. This is why nail prep is so important.

Start by washing your hands with an oil free soap.

Dry them off completely. Nails are porous and hold moisture. If they aren't thoroughly dried, you can get lifting.

Push your cuticles back (be sure to get the invisible cuticle off of your nail beds

Use #1 Bond to dry up excess oil from the nail plate.

Lightly buff the nails (don't go too hard as you can thin your nail beds) but make sure to give the full nail a rough texture.

Another reason could be that you need to use more of the #3 Seal. Please ensure that you also apply Seal to the front and edges of the nail as missing this could also cause lifting. Please note: getting Seal on the skin will not damage it.

If you are still having issues with lifting, please contact us and we will be more than happy to go through your process with you :)

Why has my brush gone hard?

+

There are 2 main reasons why your Base or Glow brush will go hard.

Firstly, if Base comes into contact with too much powder pigment it can cause the brush to become hard. This is why it is so important to wipe off any excess powder each time you dip (before you apply Base again.)

Secondly, the Seal liquid may not be completely dry. Seal and Glow are formulated to react together and give your nails a hard finish. This means that if the Glow brush comes into contact with the Seal liquid on the nail, the Seal liquid will set the brush too making it hard! Please make sure that you always wait 1-2 minutes after applying Seal liquid, to ensure it is completely dry before you apply your Glow top coat to the nail.

 i) How to fix it:

If your brush picks up some colour pigment, or comes into contact with the activator it may become hard and difficult to use. This is why your Soak liquid is there to save the day! First, remove the affected brush from the bottle and carefully wipe with a lint free cloth. Next, remove the brush from the Soak liquid. Carefully wipe the liquid off of the wand and bristles of the Soak brush on a paper towel. Make sure the brush from the Soak liquid is completely dry!  Once dry, you can replace the damaged brush with the brush from the Soak liquid. Put the damaged brush into the Soak liquid and leave it in the bottle until another brush is damaged and follow the same steps.

Why does my Glow top coat look dull or matte?

+

If your Glow top coat isn’t giving that high gloss finish you are after, this can be caused by the Seal not drying completely before you apply the Glow liquid, or if you didn’t use enough Seal liquid initially.

You can fix this issue by buffing down the affected nails and reapplying more activator. Then, make sure to let them dry completely before reapplying the Glow liquid.

If you are still experiencing issues, please feel free to email us via support@glamrdip.com and one of our nail experts will help you out!

How do I remove Dip Perfect?

+

Dip Perfect is super easy to remove! First file away the top layer of powder to allow the Remove liquid to soak through easily. Next apply the Remove liquid or an Acetone based nail polish removal liquid to cotton balls and wrap them with foil around your fingers. After about 10-15 minutes the liquid will slide right off!

P.S. If the liquid doesn’t slide off easily, you will need to leave the liquid on for longer. You should not have to scrape or apply any pressure! It is so important to make sure that the powder is fully dissolved as scraping off the product can damage your natural nails. Our Remove liquid is designed to fully dissolve the powder in 10-15 minutes however, other removers can take longer.

Will Remove or an acetone based solution damage my nails in the removal process?

+

Our Remove Solution as well as Acetone will not damage your nails themselves, however they do remove oils from your nail and if left untreated, this can cause them to become weak and dry over time.

There is a simple solution to this and that is that application of your Heal liquid. By applying your Heal liquid liberally to your cuticles after the Removal process, you will alleviate any potential problems and when applied consistently, your nails will actually become stronger and healthier than ever before! Our Keratin-Infused Heal liquid is packed with All Australian Botanicals including Jojoba, Sweet Almond Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Lavender Oil, Orange and Lemon Oils. These natural oils will work in harmony to soften and moisturise your cuticles as well as restoring flexibility and strength to the nail.

Remember! The only way that the removal process will actually damage your nails is if you force and scrape the product off when it isn’t ready or if you don’t rehydrate your cuticles! So again, please make sure when removing your nails, to allow the Remove solution to completely dissolve the powder so that there is no scraping required. After this, simply apply your Heal liquid to keep cuticles smooth and hydrated and your nails looking strong and healthy :)
